Kiehl’s skincare review

Hey my loves, i’m really excited to share a skin care review of Kiehls using products from their Ultra Facial range as well as concentrates to help battle my dull dry skin. I’ve been cleansing, toning and moisturising regularly for the past 2 weeks and have blown away by the results!

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser – This cleanser claims, “to thoroughly cleanse skin and remove makeup, without over – drying or stripping skin of its natural oils” Since I’ve been using the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish for 5 years now, I was reluctant in trying a new cleanser however, overall im really pleased with how smooth hydrated and plump my skin feels. After working the cleanser into my face i either wash it off or use my N0.7 beautiful skin brush for a deep clean (I’ve recently bought this brush, a review will be up on my instagram page very soon!) With the Cleanse and Polish, I could easily use that on my eyes and remove any stubborn liner or glitter, however this isn’t suitable for the eye area which is a bit of a deal breaker and something I have to consider before buying again.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner – I’ve always been used to a light watery toner, this is a little thick but I love how it feels after cleansing, it doubles up the moisture in my skin so its perfect before a concentrate or a moisturiser. I WISH I took before and after shots, im kicking myself. 2 weeks ago my skin had dry patches, it was flaky, it was dull and I had quite a lot of redness under my nose and my cheeks. Now I get compliments saying my skin looks clean, it looks fresh! Im not a skincare expect so im not sure which product caused the dramatic change to my skin, but i’ll 100% be sticking to the cleansing, toning and moisturising products to keep my skin at this level.

Over the past few years ive suffered from a skin picking disorder caused by stress at a time where I was at a low point in life. I didn’t know it was a “thing” until i researched skin picking and eventually controlled my bad habit. Consequently, picking my skin has left scars and ive struggled to diminish them. Towards the end of 2017, my bad habit flared up again and i kept picking my dry skin on my cheek. It left a lot of redness on my cheek and pimples that just wouldn’t go and it became a struggle to cover it with makeup. Again, i wish i took before and after shots as not only has the redness significantly reduced, the tiny pimples have disappeared too in just 2 weeks. My cheek looks absolutely normal as if it hasn’t gone through skin picking and redness! Looking at how healthy my skin looks now, its really motivated me to keep my bad habit under control

IMG_20180326_105136_046

The side of my cheek that is affected – In 2 weeks the redness, annoying pimples and texture has gone down. My cheek feels smooth with just a bit of scarring left that’s easy to just conceal

Ultra Facial Cream – Although my Liz Earle moisturiser keeps my dry skin at bay i wanted something stronger to combat my dry patches and the dry skin on my hands. Using this cream is probably my favourite step, it gives you the most perfect smoothing and moisturising finish to the skin. The cream itself isn’t too thick and heavy but its very smoothing and at the end of this routine my skin is glowing,  its even and it feels amazingly clean

Concentrates – I bought the Midnight recovery concentrate which is very popular as it claims to, ” give you younger looking skin by morning. It regenerates, repairs and replenishes skin for a smoother healthier look” Ive tried a few facial oils etc; and haven’t really noticed much a difference. The Midnight recovery is to be used before moisturising and ideally before bed. I will say that it did help me fall asleep quicker once because it smells so luxurious and dreamy, i like how it sinks into the skin but still leaves a bit of a shine. I suffer from terribly dry skin in the winter so seeing  a shine is a miracle for me. Im not sure about the younger looking skin claim but usually when i wake up, my nose is a bit oily and my skin looks a bit dull. However, with this i notice a slight change. My skin isn’t that dry and its a little smooth. It is really the tiniest change, but i do enjoy applying it and hopefully in time, i’ll notice a bigger difference.

IMG_20180326_105049_073

It’s said that the Midnight recovery works best with the daily reviving concentrate to, “strengthen skin’s defences against daily aggressors to keep skin youthful and radiant looking all day”. I’m all for the radiant skin claim, i use this before moisturising in the day, 2 or 3 times a week and i love the glow it gives. I wouldn’t recommend using every time you cleanse etc; but using this a few times a week will make your skin look energised and healthy!

And that brings us to the end of the review guys, im so glad i found a skincare regime that tackles my problems. I’ll still be using my Liz Earle Cleanser for when i need to remove heavy eye makeup. However, if your looking to switch up your usual routine, i suggest doing some research about your skin first, and you’ll know what your skin needs. Do plenty of research of the new products and even take an hour talking to the staff at the skincare counter if you have to. The more you know, the better products you will buy, and the better results. I’ve also added some changes into my diet for example drinking a lot more water than i used to, eating clean and cutting down on oily foods, which may have contributed to the overall effect. Skincare is only part of the equation, looking after yourself is just as important! Kielhs is a bit on the high end side, but I’ve never had results like this and since my wedding is coming at me fast, I need to be shining! So for me, its worth the price tag.

Let me know if you have any questions about any of the products mentioned. See you in my next post!

One brand review – Makeup Revolution

Hey my loves, im back with another one brand review, this time reviewing a brand im not too familiar with – Makeup Revolution! Its a brand I like keeping updated with online but always walk past their stand at the drugstore, and not really have any products from. Makeup Revolution has recently been the talk of the beauty world lately with all their new exciting releases, so I thought to give my opinion on some products which caught my eye!

I’ve heard so many positive reviews about eyeshadow palettes from this brand. The Iconic Fever palette is the one that looked the most appealing with all the lovely warm mattes and shimmers!

Iconic fever palette, (£4, Available from Superdrugs)

SWATCHES – The swatches of the matte shades were a little disappointing. Swatches from the lighter transitional shades turned out to be patchy whereas the darker shades turned out to be a little richer in pigment. However, the shimmer shades look beautiful  and swatch beautifully too. The shimmers are pigmented and have a grainy buttery feel and the shades look amazing!

APPLICATION – For an easy smokey eye, where I would pat either a dark transition shade or a brown shade on the centre on my lid and blend outwards and use a shimmer shade right in the centre of the lid, the shadows work great. They blend quite well. However, when i tried a cut crease, the matte shadows don’t blend into each other when I layer them for definition for the crease. The shadows are patchy and separate even after blending so for a more creative eyelook, the shadows don’t work that well. I feel this palette is great for an everyday eye with some gorgeous shimmers at such a great price at only £4, but it would at the bottom of my palettes to use for a heavier eyelook.

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define in C5 (£4, Available from Superdrug)

picsart_03-13-09-01-09.jpg

Even while I was away on holiday, I managed to hang onto the online buzz about these concealers! The formula claims to be lightweight with full coverage to cover blemishes, dark circles and even out skin tone with a soft matte finish. I absolutely love and root for drugstore concealers, one of my go to’s is the Maybelline fit me for both concealing, highlighting and contouring. Getting hold of this in store was nearly impossible as it was sold out everywhere, so I got C5 and C15 to contour (which was unfortunately was way too dark for my skintone, and I should really stick to shade matching myself in store, I always mess up online😩). The packaging is sleek, I also love how affordable it is which makes it easier to stock up! The large doe foot applicator makes application so easy and so smooth, perfect for days for when I can use this as foundation. I didn’t notice the concealer settling into my fine lines to where it looks obvious that it has so I was pleased about that. Overall I think its a great product to stock up on, and i’ll definitely by stocking up on C5 as well as lighter shades to highlight with!

Finding the right concealer or the right foundation online can be a bit of pain, especially when like me shade matching online doesn’t always work out. So I’ve found a foundation guide that helps you in shade matching as well comparing over 700 foundations from different brands, so you get the perfect fit for you! Just click on this link for all your foundation needs!

Makeup Revolution HD Pro Powder Contour Light Medium (£8, Available from Superdrug)

IMG_20180311_143112_820

Makeup Revolution offers a whole range of different powder and cream contour palettes, but this one looked it could replace my old but gold Kat Von D shade and light palette. The swatches were disappointing and not as pigmented as I hoped it to be. Its also the same for application, I had to keep dipping my brush into the contour shades multiple times just to get a very light dull looking bronzer and contour. The banana shade at the end performed slightly better than the rest, but overall its a pretty disappointing contour palette and one I wont be using again

Makeup Revolution Dark Brown Brow Pomade ( £6, Available from Superdrug)

I picked up a brow pomade for times when my brows are a little messy and so need something more than a pencil to neaten them up. Im not a big fan of pomade’s but they do an excellent job of getting a “snatched brow” (which is perfect for special occasions, not really my style on a daily basis) For only £6, its a great pomade that does the job, and using my Anastasia Beverly Hills brow brush in 12, I can get great looking brows from a pomade that will last me a good time!

Makeup Revolution Iconic Matte Nude Lipstick in Inclination (£3, Available from Superdrug)

Last but not least, I grabbed a gorgeous pinky nude from their ranges of lipsticks. Im not a fan of the packaging, the formula is creamy and it has good staying power. For just £3 its a great buy as well as other lip kits, glosses and more lipsticks to stock up on!

picsart_03-13-09-00-26.jpg

And that is the end to this review guys, im glad that I finally got to try out Makeup Revolution, i was both shocked and suprised thinking where have i been all this time!  Its also made me want to try out more drugstore brands ive never tried so let me in the comments what brand you would like to read a review on!

See you in my next post guys!

Reviewing the Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray

Heyyy my loves! It’s BEEN A WHILE since I’ve blogged and reviewed a product for you guys! Your girl drowned in assignments, she got engaged, she went through a whole bunch of things but i’m glad to be back here and doing what I love. I hope you guys like the new look of the website and I cant wait to bring out more content! So without further ado, let’s get into the review!

The Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial spray as well as other skincare products under Mario Badescu have been all over social media for as long as I can remember. This facial spray however has been under the public eye the most and so I thought to buy it and see whether it will make a difference to my skin. Skincare is really really important to me and is something that needs to be spot on for me to be comfortable and confident when wearing makeup. I like my skincare to be natural, organic and to give me fast results without being harsh or drying to my skin. I have combination skin, however in the winter it tends to be overall more on the dry side, Hence, I like to use oils and moisturisers and hydrating products.

WHAT IT CLAIMS

A refreshing, hydrating mist for all skin types. Created with a blend of fragrant herbal extracts and rosewater, it lightly refreshes skin whilst boosting hydration and relieving dehydrated, tight complexions.” (Description from Beauty bay)

WHAT IT DOES

I’ve got to be honest, I had to do some research to see what its actually used for, or even when you should use it. From a quick search from other bloggers, you could use this after moisturiser, as a setting spray, or as a hair mist, it was just unclear as to how it would work for me and that’s frustrating. I first tried it out a setting spray, spritzing it on my face like how I would normally use a spray when I’ve finished my makeup. It didn’t work. After a few spritzes, it felt heavy on my face and if I hadn’t have blended it in it would have sat on top of my makeup. So for me, it was terrible as a setting spray.

I then used it in my night time skin care routine, just after moisturising, spritzing it on my face and patting it in with my hands, to see if it would help in hydrating my skin. I noticed a slight difference with my skin feeling a lot smoother as ive just toned it and slightly firmer in some areas for example my cheeks and forehead. I would have liked to see my skin looking refreshed as it claims and feeling hydrated but unfortunately it didnt.

Overall its a nice product, but not a product that i couldnt live without as it just doesnt make the difference that i want it to make. I got my 30ml bottle for under £10 from Harvey Nichols, its an inexpensive product that you could easily try and test out in different ways but overall, its just a “meh” facial spray for me!

Let me know your thoughts about the facial spray in the comments below, or any other products you’ve tried in the Mario Badescu range, i’d love to know!

See you in my next post!

Laura Mercier Flawless fusion foundation review

Hey my loves! Its been a while since i’ve done a product review and i thought what better product could there be than the new Laura Mercier flawless fusion foundation that ive had my eyes on for quite some time. Ive seen many influencers put the “15 hour wear claim” to test and it looks very promising.

If you guys didnt know already, over the summer i put a stop to foundation. Mostly because due to breakouts and the feeling of foundation on a hot summer’s day was enough to embrace my bare face. I’ve really been loving the skipping out foundation routine, so the foundation has to be pretty phenomenal to persuade me to start wearing it again!

This foundation claims to provide ” all the wear, all the coverage, without the weight”. It’s high performance wear thats ” sweat, humidity, water and transfer resistant” with a weightless texture that feels like “second skin”. When i came across this i felt like it fit the description of what i need. A second skin feeling so i wouldnt feel weird wearing foundation again but giving me enough full coverage.

My shade

I brought home two testers, one was in the shade Buff and the other Macadamia. After trying buff (the darker shade), it matched perfectly with my forehead but in different lighting it was too dark for the rest of my face. Macademia looked too light when swatched on to the skin however when blended in and after highlighting and contouring it balanced in nicely. So I went ahead and bought Macademia to test how I feel about it, whether it does really feel like second skin and if it lives up to the long lasting claim!

wp-image-1207960305.jpg

• At 7am i applied the foundation using my all time favourite Morphe M439 and using a beauty blender after. I set my under eye concealer, nose, the area under my nose my forehead and smile lines which are the places i tend to get oily throughout the day. I finished off using my Nyx dewy setting spray

• Throughout the day i felt like i could touch my skin without my skin feeling tacky or any foundation rubbing off and it felt like an invisible smooth layer. It also covered up the redness around my cheeks and nose very well and didnt budge

• I did notice my nose getting oily even after setting with powder but the rest of the face was perfectly intact. 10 hours in and i didnt feel like i needed to take my makeup off. A childish word yes but my skin didnt feel “icky” (thats the only word to describe it😂)

• At the end of the day about 9pm so thats  14 hours of wear i noticed the foundation seperated on my nose and i could see skin peeking through but honestly it wasnt a big deal for me. I was still happy about how it kept my oiliness at bay and how it felt so lightweight! I would never wear foundation for more than 14 hours anyway but i was still pleased with how it held up🙌

Final Verdict

Overall, i think this foundation lives up to its claims and its made me excited to wear foundation again. I didnt feel as if there was a heavy layer on that would transfer everywhere and it was super lightweight. I cant emphasise it enough!. It looked and even felt like soft even supple skin! I think its a great buy and would definitely recommend to grab a couple of samples, see how the shade looks like in natural light, in low light or sun light and give this foundation a go! It might just become a staple in your collection❤

Do let me know if you have any further questions and i shall see you in my next post!

Huda Beauty Desert Dusk review

Capturing the shimmering dunes and lights of a desert at dusk, Huda Beauty has released another majestic eye shadow palette to her line. The vibrant shades inspired by the mysterious desert landscape had me falling head over heels and utterly in love. As with any eye shadow palette I begin working out what the crease and transition colours are and imagining what looks to create, but I was just so  blown away by how vibrant the shades are. Very few palettes excite me but this sparked a creativity in me like never before and that’s when you know its pretty damn special. The palette was available on Cult Beauty for £56, ( exactly the same price as her previous palette). As usual i’ll be giving my honest opinion about whether its truly worth the hefty price tag as well as comparing it to her previous palette!

Packaging

snapchat-144224127.jpg

20171004_222611

I love how Huda and her team took on board the complaints/suggestions her customers have said over her first palette, for example people wanted a mirror and I felt the same way too and the palette felt light and flimsy  so people felt like it wasn’t worth the £56 (which in my opinion is quite a lot for an eyeshadow palette). A lot of effort and consideration generally can be seen because the packaging is so beautiful. Waking up and seeing an intoxicating Arabian princess on your vanity staring right back at you on a gloomy day is just so different and genius. Also, when compared to the Rose Gold, the palette feels a lot more sturdy and heavy and she’s also included a mirror (thank the lord) so I’m glad she took on board what we wanted and it shows that she took our concerns seriously!

Swatches

For £56 you are getting:

– 8 Mattes

– 6 Pressed Pearls

– Three duo chrome toppers

– One pure glitter ( I’ll be sharing  a funny/heartbreaking story about this shade further on in the review!)

PicsArt_10-07-09.24.30

PicsArt_10-07-09.30.12

picsart_10-07-09-34-07.jpg

Some of the mattes for example Saffron were a little patchy and difficult to swatch however I was perfectly pleased with the rest including all the pressed pearls and duo chrome toppers that im so excited to create looks with. However, the heartbreak with Cosmo was that I wasn’t entirely aware that its a complete loose glitter in the pan so as I turned the palette over to read some information on the back I heard something fell… And it was at that moment my heart dropped and saw the pan completely empty and a bunch of glitter on the floor. I was so annoyed. I did scrape it off the floor and pat it in but I think there should have been some sort of protective layer, the paper provided isn’t enough to hold the glitter in place because it moves around. I genuinely think for a high price there should have been something to stop the glitter from moving its just my opinion but if I hadn’t have saved cosmo I would’ve been one angry customer😩

The look I created and posted on my Instagram was a halo eye.

1) Eden was used for a transition shade along with Musk to deepen the crease.

2) I then used Oud in the inner corner and outer corner to create the halo shape. To soften the edges I mixed Desert Sand and the tiniest amount of Musk.

3) Saffron and Amber were used to deepen and define the halo in the same areas I used Oud. In the centre I first packed on Nefertiti and then applied glitter glue on top. I then applied Cosmo using a small synthetic packing brush.

4) On the lower lashline I used the same shades but using more Oud on the outer eye. Nefertiti was used as a inner corner highlight and using a angled liner I applied saffron in my inner waterline and I really liked how it looked

PicsArt_10-07-04.28.06

Snapchat-1924856930

The only issue I had was that some of the matte shades were a little patchy, when on the eye and swatches. For example when I layered similar colours such as Amber and Saffron to deepen and define I noticed skin still peeking through so I had to reapply and it was if the colour had disappeared or seperated. The problem with that is you end up adding more and more so it can turn into an unblended mess. Cosmo and Nefertiti applied nicely and there was a strong deposit of colour so I was happy with that. I will be creating more creative looks on my instagram so follow me if you don’t already so you don’t miss out!

One thing that really stood out and I admired was the campaign for this launch. If you haven’t watched the first look already on Huda’s Instagram i’ll link it here because it is jaw dropping. Im really loving the amount of effort digital influencers and bloggers with their own makeup lines are putting into their launches its incredible to see. Everything from the location, to the addictive music, the cinematography blew me away its one of my favourite launch videos to date. The genius idea of having a global snapchat filter to itensify the hype even further just made me admire Huda and her team even more. Their raw passion is so inspiring and uplifting and im excited to see what more Huda Beauty has to offer!

Final Verdict: Is it for me?

You ladies know that my reviews are a textbook long so to wrap this up I feel that if you want to push yourself experimenting with deep reds and purples, and playing with different textures and possibly scraping off glitter off the floor then this palette is for you. It gets my creative juices flowing and makes me want more to experiment with different coloured glitters, as opposed to my usual golds and silvers and get out of my comfort zone a little bit. It wont really be my everyday go to palette because I did try using Eden with Oud and I didn’t really like how it looked so i’ll be sticking with the Rose Gold. Its a palette to explore your creativity and have fun with but not really something i would be choosing to wear everyday.

I hope you found this review useful let me know if you have any questions. See you in my next post!
