A review of Jouer’s Skinny dip Ultra Foil shimmer shadows

Hey my loves! I’ve been meaning to review the new Jouer summer collection, which included this beautiful shimmer eyeshadow palette for a while now. I wanted to test every shade on myself as well as others to give you my final verdict!

I got this from Cultbeauty for £35 as a little treat because i dont really play with glitters and pigments and i thought this would be a great place to start. It claims to, ” deliver an intense, shimmering metallic finish thats long wearing and crease resistant”PicsJoin_20176216565927

Left to right – “Starlight” ( Foil shimmering platinum) “Bikini” ( Foil shimmering champagne pink) “Skinny dip”  (Foil shimmering champagne gold) “Tan lines”   ( Foil shimmer antique bronze) “Magic hour” (Foil shimmer antique bronze) “Midnight swim” (Glitter cocoa bronze) Also pictured, Jouer’s lip topper in Skinny dip

First of all, the packaging is absolutely beautiful and the palette itself is really lightweight and easy to carry around in a handbag or my kit for clients so im pleased with that. The palette and colours itself is a real joy to see because its just so stunning, doesnt it just look like a dream!

Application and swatches

So in the product description it says the shadows can be used wet or dry meaning you can use setting spray onto a packing brush and then apply onto the lid, but after how strong the swatches came out on my fingers i thought to pack that onto my eyelid instead of a brush. I did try using a dense packing brush but i just didnt feel comfortable with it. The swatches came out beautifully, there was a strong deposit of pigment, it feels creamy and smooth, not glittery or chunky at all which is a good sign!

Screenshot_20170602-165300.jpg

On the eyelid when using my ring finger and lightly packing it on, it was very pigmented and very little eyeshadow was left on my finger. Sometimes in some palettes a shimmery pigment swatches amazingly on the finger but it just doesnt show up on the eyes which defeats the whole purpose of the palette i guess but its great for the ‘gram😂. I was so pleased with how it looked on my eyes, it was so simple and very little product got wasted so im really in love with how well this palette worked for me

Final Verdict

Overall, ive used this palette time and time again, i fall in love every time, and if you do decide to get this ( i highly recommend to do so) just TRY the shade midnight swim or Tan lines on top of a matte brown or copper shade on your eyelid and you’ll get my obsession, trust me.

I think its a great alternative to using glitter thats quite intimidating and messy, i made a gigantic mess over this eyelook i posted on my instagram but i managed to save it (just about). Its also a great alternative to the Stilla Magnificent metals which you just get one shade of whereas these are 6 gorgeous pans! Theres also great swatches on Jouer’s instagram and you can see the full skinny dip collection. I really hope they create a holiday edition of this with greens and golds and lovely warm tones (im drooling) But fingers crossed!

That wraps up my review, im really pleased that i have it and im quite impressed with Jouer and i can see why beauty influencers regularly promote Jouer for its great quality and aesthetic and i cant wait to see what more they have to offer❤

See you in my next post!

All about Elf Cosmetics!

Elf Cosmetics has finally launched in the UK, and its about time. I know im probably the last person reviewing them, i know😩 BUT i made a trip to the local Superdrug back in May and now its August… But hey at least i took some time reviewing it😂

Ive heard all about Elf from American youtubers raving about their products and how its such good quality for an affordable price. They’ve been praised as, ” Quality cosmetics at affordable prices” and “quality skincare selling products largely at $1, $3 and $6 price points”. Fun fact alert: ELF stands for Eyes, lips and Face, and not the Elf movie, oh well😂😩  But ive heard so many good things about their primers and face products so thats what i dived into!

There was SO much to choose from, so many primers, foundations, concealers and a whole ton of different types of powders for skin types. To be honest, after the horror ive had with the NYX setting powder for not doing anything and making me look ashy,  (i’ll link it here so you can see), i’m a little skeptical of drugstore powders. They looked incredible but i’ll have to do my research first and then have a go. I must have spent an hour deciding on what to get. Finally, i chose the primer that would suit me best and a cute little brush and bronzer kit to start with.

snapchat-1677353503.jpg

  • Elf Mineral Infused Face Primer – Out of all the face primers catering for redness and correcting bloctchy skin, sensitive skin, uneven skin and for brightening, i felt this one would work best for me because it claims to “combat against excess oil, flaky dryness, enlarged pores and fine lines…. so makeup goes on evenly for a long lasting finish”.
  •  I first used this on a very hot day it must have been about 26 degrees. It was boiling. The primer comes out of a pump so 10 points for that, i hate fiddling around. It felt quite thick and siliconey (if that makes sense) a bit lighter feeling than the Benefit porefessional but heavier than the Loreal Infallible Primer. I got a bit put off as it was so hot and i wasnt keen in a thick primer. Once rubbed in however and fanned down a bit, it melted into the skin. AND MY NOSE LET ME TELL YOU. The pores were gone.  It really covered the giant craters on my nose. The grand canyon was gone!
  • Throughout the day, i made notes on how my makeup looked because as a reminder i bought this in may. The foundation applied smoothly as it claimed to and throughout the day i really stared closely in my mirror. With powder on top to set it of course, it did a pretty good job. My makeup stayed put. At the end of the day, i did notice the sides of my nose spread out to my cheeks getting a little oily but it wasnt a huge deal for me. I must have used this about 10 times and overall im quite pleased with it. I tend to reach for this rather then my porefessional so thats saying something!
  •  My sister who doesnt know much about makeup thought the primer cost, in her words “Like £50” because it looks expensive. Little does she know that this baby cost me ONLY £7.50. *Mic drop*. I think shes right to think it looks expensive because look at that packaging, the frosted glass that oh so reminds me of the Marc Jacobs coconut primer. Its beautiful.
  • Finally i give this primer a good 9/10, my only concern is that i wish it was a lot lighter feeling but overall, its a great buy

  • Elf contouring Blush and Bronzing powder in Fiji – Again, there was a lot to choose from and i definitly will be diving into their contour kits, their highlighters, blush palettes and eyeshadow palettes. This little duo appealed to me the most, i really like the colours its in my lovely little comfort zone
  • It claims to create, “a healthy and natural glow… for a pop of colour and contour for a beautiful definition”
  • Lets talk about the price first. Its a fiver. Its only £5.00! I cant say enough how pleased i am with this kit. I really love blush, i would always choose blush over contour any day
  • The blush is exceptionally lovely its a fresh pop of colour, a gorgeous light pink. I use the bronzer mostly for a quick powder nose contour. Its not a warm sun kissed like bronzer, it actually works beautifully for a subtle nose contour which is strange but it does the job!
  • I dont always wear foundation, we have those days when theres just no time. So, i stick some concealer under my eyes and i use this kit for the no make up make up look and its perfect. You cant really tell i have blush on or a bit of bronzer, it really is a staple makeup product for me now and doesnt the packaging look like NARS!

Overall, its top quality, great makeup that doesnt break the bank. Love it love it love it. I will be diving into more products from ELF and i really recommend to try them out. It wont dissapoint!.

That concludes my review, see you in my next post!

Bronze and Gold Makeover!

Hey my loves! I did one of my signature looks on an old friend @biryanimuncher today. When it comes to makeovers i tend to get really nervous because i want it to look incredible and make the client feel the same way too. This was my first all so serious/proffesional makeover that i really want to get to more and more practise of doing

I remember doing makeup on my sister when i was 17 and i haven’t done a makeover since. I remember thinking WHAT ON EARTH, how do i hold her head, how close do i stand, am i hurting her eye, why does it look so weird or am i doing this right😭😂

Some of these images are screenshots of videos, we were having far too much fun on boomerang so apologies if its not super clear😅

Makeup by Mario inspired look on KKW

Hey my loves! Recently Mario Dedivanovic posted an image of Kim Kardashian on his Instagram and i was so in love, im always im love with his work but there was something about this look that caught my eye.

So i decided to re – create it  for you guys20170716_163206.pngand see how it would look on me. It is a lot more dramatic that what Kim normally wears, and reading the caption im guessing its something related to KKW Beauty, and it also kind of  reminds me of the makeup she always used to do back in her younger Kim and Mario days😩❤ This is my first try at a Kim K look, believe me i tried hard to chisel my potato face and get that clean, sharper than a knife cheekbone, ( although i will say i think she has some sort of surgery on those cheeks, correct me if im wrong but it just looks too good to be natural😭😩)

The new Vacation edition, Send Me More Nudes Velvet liquid lipstick review, by Kylie Cosmetics!

Hey my loves, im back with a review of the new velvet liquid lipsticks by Kylie Cosmetics, as part of her summer ’17 collection!

Love em or hate em, the Kardashian/Jenner’s always find new ways to keep us hooked and when the collection was ready to purchase i was 100% certain that they would sell out within seconds. I was not expecting to get hold of anything because im sure we all know how ridiculously fast her products sell out and the commotion from customers afterwards. It can get quite messy.  So for that reason, i had no intention buying anything because i had suffered enough trying to get the mini mattes from her birthday collection last year ( if you’re from my snapchat you would know)  HOWEVER, by some great miracle i managed to get my hands on these babies 11 MINUTES in!

11 whole minutes in on the first restock. This was a makeup miracle. So without really thinking, in sheer excitement i somehow pressed “complete order”. I had no idea what, why, how a velvet lipstick even is and i was skeptical about the shades. But the deed was done.

The lipsticks themselves were 45 dollars (£35), shipping was 14.95 (£11.65) so in total that was 59.95 dollars ( £46.72). Oh and there’s the customs fee :))) which was £16.81. So you are looking at a grand total, in pounds, £63.46 (Damn you, customs  damn you) So now lets get into the review and see whether its worth the splurge

Top to bottom: Naked (a sandy beige), Birthday suit (nude warm beige), Bare (nude pinky beige, Commando (terracota beige) – Descriptions are from the Kylie Cosmetics website

    PicsArt_06-28-12.58.20

This was my very first time swatching them and i really liked the shades. They’re my idea of perfect nudes, there’s a good variety between pinks, deep nudes and a muted terracota shade. So far so good! As this was my first time wearing a velvet liquid lipstick i was a bit skeptical because im so used to wearing matte’s or just a lip topperPicsArt_06-28-01.15.39

However, this is what Naked, Birthday Suit, Bare and Commando look on my skintone. My natural lips are quite pigmented in colour so these shades may look different to what you would see on other people on the Kylie Cosmetics Instagram. Overall, i like Commando (last image on the right and Birthday Suit (1st image in the middle two). Commando is my absolute favourite, its a beautiful terracota nude that stays true to its description. Its my latest obsession and i just wish it was sold as an individual so i could stock up for life! Birthday Suit reminds me of the matte Exposed by Kylie Cosmetics and again, its a beautiful warm nude. Bare is on the light pinky nude spectrum and it wouldnt be something i would reach out for so im not too keen on it. Last but not least, as you can see, Naked is way too pale and it washes me out so thats a no go.

    The Formula

As this is my first time trying out a velvet formula, i didnt know what to expect. I though it would either be glossy, or have a wet feel to it and there would be transfer everywhere. To my surprise, it was quite the opposite. The application was smooth and even, it was non drying, my lips felt hydrated throughout the day as if i barely had anything on! The formula won me over❤

    Final Verdict

In my opinion, i think its a great collection and getting your hands on it, in itself is a great miracle. Im happy with 2 of the shades, however the other two dont look so great on me, but it’s the formula that wins me over and it outperforms the mattes from Kylie Cosmetics that pretty much suck the moisture from my lips. Overall, its a great makeup buy!

    Alternatives/Dupes

Here are some alternatives/dupes that from my personal experience, i feel would work if you dont want to suffer through International shipping and customs!

That concludes my review, i hope you found it helpful

An honest review of the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette

Hey my loves, I’ve been wanting to share my opinion about this palette that has been all over the internet ever since its launch last year in October. Huda Kattan for me, was the only beauty guru and You tuber I relied on back when I started learning so she’s been a massive influence and I’ve been crushing on her since 2011😊 (who doesnt she’s perfect😩)

When the palette launched I’ve got to be honest I wasn’t into it. Pink eyeshadow didn’t appeal to me and when I looked at the price tag plus the shipping all the way from Dubai which came up to 85 dollars in total, it put me off .

However, on my 20th birthday in April,  my sisters treated me to makeup. So I thought to make use of this rare gesture and bought the palette after seeing so many swatches, reviews, looks on the internet as it slightly changed my opinion of it. As you all may know the palette launched in the UK and you can purchase it from Cult Beauty for £56 with free shipping (which in my opinion is still a little pricey!).

    Overall performance of the shadows

The most important aspect of any  eyeshadow palette for me are the shadows. I’m not too fussy about the packaging however I do appreciate it, but since this product has a high price point the shadows had to work. The mattes: Sandalwood. Henna, Maneater, Coco, Suede, Black Truffle, Shy, Flamingo and Bossy have been tried and tested for a couple of months and they perform perfectly. They are blendable using only the tinest amount on a blending or crease brush. This is great as it extends the longevity of the shadow since you only need a tiny amount so in a way you are getting your money’s worth.

Howeverrr, the performance of the 3D Metals are so weird. I cant use any other word to describe it. I was expecting super pigment in on swipe and it would look amazing. The shadows: Dubai, Fling, 24K and Angelic are consistent in every use using my ring finger, and I can rely on them to not be chunky and for there to be a strong deposit of colour.

Rose Gold, Trust Fund and #Blessed are very inconsistent. I wanted to use Rose Gold in the middle of my lid, I used my finger (as your supposed to) and I got almost nothing. I had to use a pink highlighter, and I hate using two palettes as I prefer everything in one so I was really disappointed.

These three shades are patchy, they look nothing like the swatches I see on the internet and when applied on the eyes, you can see almost little to no colour/pigment. 3 out of 18 shadows are inconsistent and that’s just really disappointing because these are the shades that appeal to me the most and the ones I would’ve regularly used.

    PicsArt_06-18-02.06.58

Final Verdict, is it worth the splurge?

So in my opinion, this palette does perform well in terms of the mattes and some 3D metals, but the fact that it costs £56 and 3 out of the 7 metal shadows ( which is the main selling point) perform terribly,  it is most definitely not worth the splurge. Even though I didn’t pay for it, it was a gift I still feel really disappointed. I find it annoying how one palette performs well for someone but then the exact same palette has terrible payoff for someone else.  Therefore, if you haven’t bought it yet I would highly recommend trying it out maybe through someone else’s and see whether ALL the shades perform the same and whether it works for you.

    Alternatives

These are some alternatives to the shades in the Huda Beauty palette. Im not aware of a complete dupe of the entire palette and I feel that’s why the palette is so distinct and in such high demand. However, these are some products that I love and have been using religiously

    • @Jasmine_khatunbeauty on Instagram has a plethora of loose glitter pigments with shades that are very much similar to the ones in the Huda Beauty Palette
    • @Certifeye is one of my favourite eyeshadow, glitter and eyelash brand on Instagram. Their Majestic palette has shades that are dupes to the Huda Beauty palette. For example, the shade “Power” almost looks identical to “Rose Gold”. They also have a wide range of budget friendly glitters/pigments!
    • Single shadows from Makeup Geek such as “Curtain Call” “Fortune Teller” and “Flame Thrower” are perfect dupes and again are very budget friendly.

That wraps up my review, i wanted to be really honest and help those who havent yet bought this palette in making a informed decision. Let me know in the comments below of any more dupes I may have missed out and whether the palette has worked for you, or any hacks you know to make the 3D metals work!. I would love to know ❤

See you in my next post!
